Today, the Lohegaon airport police will question Daniel Effrati, a 54-year-old Israeli national, who was held by the airport police earlier this month on charges of carrying a live bullet into the country.
Sub-inspector Y G Nikam,u00a0 who is investigating the case,u00a0 said, "It is quite astonishing that the airport authorities in Israel couldn't find the bullet in Effrati's luggage during security checks." He added that the Israeli Embassy had confirmed that Effrati is a noted philosopher in their country.
When asked if Effrati could be a part of an arms racket, Nikam said, "The police are looking in every possible angle." However, as Effrati has claimed that he stayed at Chabbad House in Koregaon Park for a night, MiD DAY spoke to Rabbi Dezalel Kubchik who denied knowing anyone by that name. "I do not know one called Daniel Effrati," he quipped.
According to sources in the Intelligence Bureau, the number of bullet that was recovered from Effrati's luggage is 07/AT and is being used in the AK-47 rifles.
