During his long movement against black magic and other superstitious beliefs, his group Maharashtra Andhshradha Nirmoolan Samiti (Maharashtra Blindfaith Eradication Committee) organised several meetings and programmes in the state, which saw fervent opposition from right-wing Hindu organisations right through his career as an activist.

Additional commissioner of police (Crime) Shahaji Solunke said, “About two months ago we had an informal meeting as we are acquaintances from when I was posted in Satara. However, he never approached the department seeking protection and never told me about any threats received from people or organisations.” u00a0Solunke added that in the event of a threat Dabholkar the police would have definitely provided protection.
