Police still not sure if it's murder, suicide or natural death

An employee of the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Ltd (MSEDCL) was found dead at his Ajmera Colony residence in Pimpri. The police could not ascertain the cause of death.

The deceased was identified as Rajesh P Ghalsasi (35). The body was in a highly decomposed state and offered no clue to what had happened. No suicide note was found and there was no indication of foul play.

Dead since 4 days
The police broke open the door of Ghalsasi's home after residents of W-sector of the colony complained of foul smell around 8 pm on Monday. The police believe Ghalsasi had been dead four to five days before his body was discovered.

"The post-mortem report is yet to come, but we suspect that he must have died four to five days before," Police Sub-Inspector R G Sayyad said. "After the report comes in, we can give the time and reason behind his death. But since there are no signs of struggle or housebreaking, we believe that it was not a murder."

The officer said empty liquor bottles were found in Ghalsasi's home and documents showing he was not regular at work.

Alcoholism
"The bottles indicate he was drinking heavily in his last days," Sayyad said. "The police also found a warning letter from the MSEDCL to Ghalsasi about his irregular attendance.

Ghalsasi had a poor attendance record at his office since December 7, 2009, and MSEDCL had asked for a proper explanation for his absence without any intimation."

The officer said the police were trying to contact Ghalsasi's estranged wife.

"Ghalsasi and his wife had a dispute and she left him six months ago. We haven't been able to contact her so far, but we feel she will definitely be able to help in the case," Sayyad said.

"No suicide note has been found near the victim, and the cause of death is a mystery at the moment."
