Delhi Honour Killings: Performance anxiety ends for Delhi police

Ghaziabad police catch three honour killers of Delhi

The Delhi Police had been undergoing an acute performance anxiety for the last week. However, they heaved a sigh of relief on Thursday when their Uttar Pradesh counterparts arrested the three prime accused in the Delhi honour killings.

Though it did not end the way they wanted, to have got the prized catch, they were apparently relaxed as Mandeep, Ankit and Nakul were arrested from near a check post in the Kavi Nagar area of Ghaziabad. The police said they were travelling in a Hyundai I10 (DL 8C S 3600) car which they had borrowed from a friend when they were intercepted.

"We got a tip-off and have strengthened patrolling and checking in the area. They were intercepted at a police picket. They had been staying at their aunt's house in Pilkhua, Ghaziabad," said Brijlal, Additional Director General of Police.

According to the police, the accused had also gone to Hardwar after committing the triple murder of Kuldeep, 26, Monika, 23, and Shobha, 20. All three were killed on Sunday night within a span of two hours.
"The arrests were made by the UP police. We have not done any joint operation with the Delhi police," said Brijlal, when asked whether a police team from Delhi was also involved in the arrests.

Top Delhi Police officials remained tight-lipped over the development, however, they refused to concede that it should be seen as a failure of the national capital's police force.

The Delhi Police arrested Monika's uncle Dharmveer Naagar and her cousin Nitin on Thursday morning on the charges of openly justifying her killing in their comments to the media. Both of them have been sent to one-day police custody.

"Dharmveer and Nitin have been arrested under Sections 107/151 of CrPC," said a police officer.
Nakul, Mandeep and Ankit are the prime accused in the triple honour killings reported on Sunday from the Ashok Vihar area in North-West Delhi. Ankit's sister and brother-in-law Monika and Kuldeep were found dead in their house in Ashok Vihar. Next day, Mandeep's sister Shobha's dead body was found in car in the same area.

Au00a0Law, finally

The central government will soon come out with a law against honour killings and a draft has already been prepared, Union Law Minister M. Veerappa Moily said Wednesday. "The home ministry has already drafted a bill. It has been vetted and when
implemented, it will put an end to such kind of killings," Moily told reporters.
Several incidents of honour killings have been reported from Haryana. Three back-to-back cases in Delhi recently stunned the residents of the national capital.
