Ruling National Conference (NC) president Farooq Abdullah on Tuesday asked students from Jammu and Kashmir studying in Iran to leave that country immediately, as it would be difficult to evacuate them after the airspace closure. In its latest advisory, the Embassy of India asked its citizens to "leave Iran by available means of transport, including commercial flights." The advisory comes in the wake of Saturday's protests in Iran following 40-day memorials for people killed in January during anti-government rallies. Abdullah said the students should pack their bags and leave Iran before their parents panic. "I want to tell the students of Jammu and Kashmir to leave immediately. Otherwise, when the airspace is closed tomorrow, their parents may panic. They should leave before it comes to that. Otherwise, there will be no one to evacuate them. When the advisory has been issued, they should pack their bags and return home," Abdullah said. The NC president was speaking to reporters after paying tributes to the party's former general secretary, Sheikh Nazir Ahmad, on his eleventh death anniversary at Soura on the outskirts of the city. Abdullah also wished success to the J-K cricket team, which is playing Karnataka in the Ranji Trophy on Tuesday in its first-ever Ranji finals. "May God give them success. That is the most important thing. We congratulate them for reaching this far, and hope that they will win the finals," he said. Asked about the movie Kerala Story 2, Abdullah said, "Let me tell you that we cannot trust our media. It is based on lies and is suppressed by the government. So, talking in front of it holds no significance. First, the media should strengthen its integrity. Until they strengthen their integrity, people will not trust them." The NC chief said Ahmad sacrificed a lot for the party. "He was a pillar of strength of the NC. He strengthened the party as its general secretary, the success of which you are seeing today. God willing, I am hopeful that this party will continue to run as its founders envisioned," he said. This story has been sourced from a third party syndicated feed, agencies. 24 February,2026 01:49 PM IST | New Delhi | mid-day online correspondentMaharashtra’s Pune district recorded more than 14,000 property registrations in January 2026, generating over Rs 600 crore in stamp duty revenue, according to data released by Knight Frank India. In January 2026, Pune registered 14,537 properties and collected Rs 609 crore in stamp duty during the month. While registrations declined 17 per cent year-on-year (YoY) compared to January 2025, stamp duty collections saw a relatively smaller dip of 5 per cent YoY. However, on a sequential basis, the market showed signs of recovery. Property registrations rose 20 per cent month-on-month (MoM), while revenue collections increased 37 per cent compared to December 2025, indicating improved activity levels at the start of the year. Homes priced up to Rs 1 crore continued to dominate the market, accounting for 82 per cent of total registrations in January 2026. At the same time, the ticket-size distribution suggests a gradual shift towards higher-value properties. The Rs 50 lakh–1 crore and Rs 1–2.5 crore segments gained traction, with their respective shares rising to 29 per cent and 14 per cent . The distribution of home sizes remained largely stable, with minor shifts across segments. The share of units below 500 sq ft declined from 26 per cent in January 2025 to 23 per cent in January 2026. The 500–800 sq ft category continued to lead the market, increasing marginally from 45 per cent to 46 per cent over the same period. Larger configurations witnessed a modest rise in demand. The 800–1,000 sq ft and 1,000–2,000 sq ft segments each saw a one percentage point increase to 14 per cent, while the share of homes above 2,000 sq ft remained steady at 3 per cent. Overall, the data indicates a stable demand environment in Pune’s residential market, with a slight inclination towards larger homes and mid-to-premium ticket sizes despite the annual slowdown in registrations.

24 February,2026 12:39 PM IST | Mumbai | mid-day online correspondentDelhi Police on Tuesday arrested Indian Youth Congress (IYC) president Uday Bhanu Chib in connection with last week’s shirtless protest by youth wing members at the AI Impact Summit in the capital, reported PTI. Following Chib’s arrest, security has been intensified across key locations in New Delhi, taking the total number of people detained in the case to eight. Earlier, seven IYC workers, including three from Gwalior in Madhya Pradesh, were arrested for the protest at Bharat Mandapam last Friday. They have been identified as Jitendra Yadav, Raj Gujjar, and Ajay Kumar. In addition, IYC’s Uttar Pradesh general secretary Ritik alias Monty Shukla was detained from Lalitpur. Quick Reaction Teams and paramilitary units on high alert Senior officers said additional forces have been deployed at sensitive points, particularly in New Delhi, which is a hotspot for political demonstrations. Security has been tightened around the Tilak Marg police station, where Chib is currently held, while barricades have been set up at strategic points, with anti-riot teams on standby. According to PTI, Quick Reaction Teams (QRTs) and additional paramilitary companies have also been placed on alert to respond to any law-and-order situation. Senior officers directed field staff to ensure that traffic movement remains smooth. “Our priority is to maintain public order and ensure that daily life is not disrupted. Preventive measures may be invoked if any group attempts to assemble without permission,” a senior officer said. Police press charges According to police, additional sections under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including 196 (promoting enmity between different groups and acts prejudicial to maintenance of harmony) and 197 (assertions prejudicial to national integration), have been invoked in the FIR. Both sections carry a jail term of up to three years. Charges of criminal conspiracy, obstruction of a public servant in the discharge of duty, disobedience to an order duly promulgated by a public servant, unlawful assembly, and common intention had already been added to the case. IYC workers protest at summit, display slogan-printed T-shirts Last week, a group of IYC workers staged a dramatic protest inside Hall No. 5 of the summit venue by removing their shirts to reveal T-shirts printed with slogans against the government and the India-US interim trade deal, before being whisked away by security personnel. Police said the accused had registered online and obtained QR codes to gain entry into the venue. The incident triggered a political slugfest, with the BJP calling it a “shameful act to tarnish India’s image on the global stage,” while the IYC defended it as a “peaceful” demonstration aimed at safeguarding national interests. A senior police officer said the role of each accused is being examined and more arrests may follow. “We are analysing CCTV footage, digital evidence, and entry records to establish the sequence of events and identify others involved in planning and executing the protest,” the officer said. Another senior officer added that investigators are probing a possible conspiracy angle and tracking the financial trail behind the protest, including funding for printing the slogans on the T-shirts. “We are examining whether there was any coordinated effort and how the logistics were arranged,” the officer said. 24 February,2026 12:37 PM IST | New Delhi | mid-day online correspondentIn a fresh twist in the alleged gang-rape case linked to a Jakkur villa party, one of the accused has filed a prior complaint alleging an extortion attempt. According to police, the accused in his FIR dated 21 February claimed that the survivor, along with a person who introduced himself as Imran from a regional news channel, demanded money and threatened to air defamatory content if the payment was not made. Police sources said this complaint was lodged a day before the survivor approached authorities with allegations of sexual assault against Dixon Sando and Nikhil. Investigators are now probing both the sexual assault allegations and the counter-claim of extortion to establish the sequence of events. Further investigation is underway. In a separate incident, in October 2026, a seventh-semester student at BMS College of Engineering in South Bengaluru's Basavanagudi area was allegedly raped by her junior inside a men's washroom on the campus, police had said. According to police, the Hanumanthanagar police arrested Jeevan Gowda, 21, a fifth-semester student, on Wednesday in connection with the alleged assault. He was kept in judicial custody. The incident reportedly took place on October 10, but the First Information Report (FIR) was filed on October 15 under Section 64 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The survivor had delayed filing the complaint as she was distressed and afraid, but later informed her parents, who approached the police and lodged a complaint, officials had said. According to the FIR, the survivor had reached college at 8.55 am and told Jeevan she would meet him in the afternoon to collect some items. The accused allegedly asked to speak with her and repeatedly called her during the lunch break. When the victim went downstairs to meet him, he allegedly asked her to go to the seventh floor. Officials said that on the seventh floor, the accused assaulted her. She managed to enter the lift and go down to the sixth floor, where he allegedly pinned her inside a men's washroom and raped her. During the assault, he reportedly locked the room and took her phone into his pocket when she received a call from her friend. The incident is believed to have occurred between 1:30 pm and 1:50 pm. 24 February,2026 10:28 AM IST | Bengaluru | ANIDelhi’s air quality continued to remain in the ‘poor’ to ‘very poor’ category on Tuesday, reflecting ongoing pollution concerns across the national capital. Anand Vihar recorded the highest Air Quality Index (AQI) level at 331, placing it in the ‘very poor’ category. Several other areas also reported alarming AQI levels, including Wazirpur (310), Mundka (290), Dwarka Sector-8 (286), Jahangirpuri (274), Rohini (271), and ITO (269). Meanwhile, relatively better readings were recorded at IIT Delhi (158) and Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium (195), though they still fall short of satisfactory air quality standards. According to data released by the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), most monitoring stations across Delhi-NCR continue to report AQI levels significantly above permissible limits, indicating that pollution remains a persistent challenge. Top court pushes for relocation of polluting units In a significant development, the Supreme Court on Monday asked the Centre to consider shifting coal-based industries out of the Delhi-NCR region as part of long-term measures to tackle air pollution. The court also agreed to examine a proposal to prohibit coal-based thermal power plants within a 300-km radius of the national capital. A three-judge Bench led by Chief Justice of India Surya Kant has sought responses from the Union Ministries of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC), Power, and Petroleum. The recommendations were put forward by the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM), which has been actively suggesting policy interventions to improve air quality in the region. Winter chill fades, daytime heat intensifies Delhi-NCR has been witnessing fluctuating weather patterns since early February, but temperatures are now steadily rising, signalling an early transition towards warmer conditions ahead of Holi. The winter chill has largely receded and is now mostly limited to early mornings and late nights. In contrast, strong sunlight during the afternoon hours is becoming more pronounced, pushing daytime temperatures higher across the region. Clear skies, light fog likely in morning hours According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the city is expected to experience mainly clear skies throughout the day. Light fog or mist may be observed during the morning hours, but no significant weather disturbances have been forecast. The minimum temperature is expected to hover between 12 degrees Celsius and 14 degrees Celsius, while the maximum temperature may rise to between 29 degrees Celsius and 31 degrees Celsius. No rainfall has been reported, and no weather alerts have been issued, indicating stable and pleasant conditions overall. The recent weather trends suggest that Delhi has moved past the peak winter phase, with warmer days now setting in gradually. (With inputs from Agencies)
