Activist files police complaint against Hurriyat leader and Arundhati Roy for showing disrespect to the national flag

Here is some more bad news for the organisers of the seminar on Kashmir's 'azaadi' and the most prominent participants - Hurriyat hawk Syed Ali Shah Geelani and author-turned-activist Arundhati Roy. A young activist has filed a complaint at the Tilak Marg police station, accusing Geelani, Arundhati and the organiser of the seminar SAR Geelani of showing disrespect to the national flag.

He has alleged that the trio provoked some people to tear the tricolour. "The speeches made by Hurriyat leader Geelani and Arundhati Roy provoked some anti-national elements present at the seminar to tear the national tricolour. It is an abject disrespect to our national symbol," said Binay Singh founder of Youth United for Vibrant Action (YUVA).

"While Geelani is spreading his secessionist agenda, Arundhati is using her pen to spread terror among Indians. The government must take proper action against them," said Singh. The police officers are still in a dilemma to register a FIR against Roy and Geelani. Senior officials remained silent on the issue.

But Arundhati continued denying allegation saying that she didn't say anything new and she remained on her statement.

The seminar was conducted by SAR Geelani in the LTG auditorium in Mandi House area of Delhi last week. Separatist from North-East India, Punjab and South India were invited in the seminar.

A group of ABVP activists went on a rampage at Delhi University on November 6, 2008, vandalising the venue of a seminar in protest against presence of SAR Geelani, acquitted in the Parliament attack case, and spat on him. Around 50 youths damaged property and hurled abuses on Geelani at the seminar on 'Communalism, Fascism and Democracy Rhetoric and Reality' which affected the programme briefly. Shouting slogans, 'Bharat Mata Ki Jai' and 'Vande Mataram', the student activists indulged in violence at the venue for about an hour even as over a dozen policemen present there remained mute spectators. Trouble started just after Geelani reached the venue. Binay Singh went up to the dais and spat on Geelani's face twice, saying 'shame, shame'.
The ABVP activists then went on damaging the windows, doors, chairs and the microphone to disrupt the meeting. However, the meeting continued despite the disturbance created at the venue.
