Coimbatore: Irked by a doctor intervening while he was arguing with his ailing wife at a government hospital at Mettupalayam, a man reportedly beat him up and threatened him with dire consequences.

The man Sivakumar (33) has been arrested, based on a complaint from the doctor, police said.

Police said the man's wife had been hospitalised last night after he assaulted her following an argument.

As the doctor was attending to her, Sivakumar came there and started abusing her. When the doctor intervened, the man told him not to treat his wife and threatened him with dire consequences if he continued to do so, police said. He then reportedly beat up the doctor.

After his arrest, the man was produced before a court in Mettupalayam, which remanded him to 15 days custody.
