Your most trusted guide to Mumbai raps 3 establishments for dishing out shoddy service

The Store
Zara, Palladium mall, Lower Parel

The Spanish high-street clothing brand may be a hit with Mumbai shoppers, but it won't be long before news about their slapdash service spreads.

The attendants, looking efficient in black jackets, are far from, well, efficient. They prefer busying themselves with arranging racks than helping customers find the right fit and size.

Actress Kareena Kapoor attended the much-hyped launch of the store in June this year

The well-travelled often discuss why service at the Mumbai outlet is a let down, when around the world, the brand does fine for its customers.

And here's the knocker: A customer picked a dress and took it to the billing counter. "We can't sell this," they said.

The new arrival wasn't listed yet. A promise to call her with an update in a day was made. No call. She returned three weeks later; it was back on the rack.

A trip to the billing counter later, she was told, "We can't sell this to you, ma'am. It's not tagged. It's not meant to be on the shelf." Huh?

The Chinese Joint
7 Spice, Dru00a0SS Rao road, Parel

It takes this budget Indian-Chinese restaurant three hours to deliver a meal right across the road. That's what happened to some of us at the Mid Day office when we ordered a meal on a Saturday night.

But we believe in second chances, so we dropped by again for lunch. Order taken, but no sign of food. "We have run out of gas, sir."

This place is not worth it, especially when they serve oil-dripping chow. The roadside "chinees" eateries will serve you the same, in half the time.

The SoBo restaurant
Flamboyante, world trade center, cuffe parade

It's where SoBo's well-heeled guests dine, but we wonder if that's excuse enough to treat some guests (those who haven't madeu00a0 a reservation) like scum.

If you haven't made a call, don't bother dropping here on a whim. You will be made to wait, looked right through, before you decide to walk away because your self respect just killed your appetite.

Nominees who missed the trophy by a whisker

Promod: The women's fashion store located at Atria Mall, Worli, makes it to this famed list thanks to its chaotic display.

Clothes are crammed so tight onto racks, there's no way to browse without dropping a few hangers.

It's a bit absurd to expect a customer to cough up Rs 3,000 for a cotton tunic you don't respect enough to give a good display.

Ivy bar: This Worli bar is a popular hangout, perhaps thanks to the fact that it's the only fuss-free joint in the area.

But the stewards could do with a lesson in quick and polite service. And that includes apologising if your credit card machine is not working.
