A BCA student was booked by the Delhi police for allegedly beating two constables and trying to snatch their weapon at Pallika Bazar area of Connaught Place on Sunday.

According to the police sources, a call was received at about 8 pm on Sunday that a youth has beaten a few policemen and has tried to snatch their weapon. A team from the local Connaught Place police station was sent to the spot at Pallika Bazar entrance.
The youth, identified as Amit Sehrawat a native of Palwal in Haryana was nabbed. He was brought to the police station and a case under sections 186, 353, 332, 356 and 511 (obstruction to public servant, causing hurt and attempt to snatch the weapon) was lodged against him.u00a0 The police sources stated that the constable, Inderjeet who was beaten and whose Insas rifle Amit tried to snatch and use it on the constable had made the call to the cops.
"Inderjeet was deputed at entrance of Pallika Bazar when he saw Amit who seemed under the influence of alcohol and trying to enter the Bazar. When Inderjeet stopped him for checking, Amit punched him thrice. After this a hawaldar who was posted nearby came and Amit punched him too. After sometime the local people and more policemen gathered and nabbed him," the senior police officers stated.
The cops said that Amit was under the influence of alcohol and is a resident of Palwal in Haryana and had come to Delhi with his friends. He had drinks a few minutes before the incident, the cops said.
"When he was trying to enter the Bazar, he was clad in a vest as he had tucked his shirt to his waist," the senior police officer stated.
Confirming the incident, the joint commissioner of police, New Delhi district, Dharmendra Kumar said that the man, who was under the influence of alcohol misbehaved with the policemen when he was stopped for checking at the entrance of Palika Bazar. "He is being booked under relevant sections," Kumar stated.
