Crime Branch officials arrested Deepak Hanumanta Fulmaali (22), a notorious criminal from Pimpri's Shagun Chowk.
Fulmaali, a resident of Rajeev Gandhi slum in Gurav Pimpale, was externed from the city limits from July 29 2009 for two years.
Police received a tip-off that Fulmali, who was wanted in several housebreak-in cases at the Sangvi police station, would be approaching Shagun Chowk in Pimpri.
The crime branch team led by inspector Mohan Vidhate laid a trap at Shagun Chowk and arrested him.
"Fulmali has a criminal record since 2005 and we have found that he was involved in 21 cases. He was externed from the city limits by DCP (Zone III) in 2009 for two years. But despite that he still entered the city several times during this period and was involved in many break-in cases in Old Sangvi, New Sangvi, Pimple Gurav, Rahatani, Kalewadi Phata, Hinjewadi and Nigdi areas. We have seized a car and gold ornaments weighing 1053 gm amounting to Rs 22.34 lakh," said Anant Shinde, Additional Commissioner of Police (Crime Branch).
The investigation is under process but they suspect his involvement in 5-7 more such cases.
A magistrate court has remanded Fulmaali to police custody till 11 November.
