There is good news for cine buffs. They now have one more place in the city to watch and discuss films after Fergusson College floated its official film club recently.
"The idea was put forth almost a year ago by students sharing a passion for movies. It took us some time before we could get the nod from college authorities," said Kabir Kate (20), an undergraduate student who heads the club. "The response has been heartening. In a week we have about 60 members."
Dedicated to screening rare and classic international, national and regional films, the club aims to create awareness on the art of filmmaking.
That's not all. "Our goal is to shoot and release a movie by the year-end," said Kabir.
The club holds a screening every Friday in the photography department of the college, followed by a discussion and ideas sharing session on Saturday.
Other members of the club who played a concrete role in putting together the club are Deepangshu Mohan (21), Santrakshit Manu (21), Rishabh Oswal (20), Chavi Thapar (21), and Karisma Modi (20), all undergraduate students of Fergusson.
Kabir and the other members added that the club would have remained a distant dream had it not been for the staunch support of some college professors, namely "Mahamuni Sir, Savita Kelkar, and Sunita Gupta."
Membership is free and is only for students of the college, but any film lover is free to participate in workshops and events conducted by the club.
