Fratricide in Talegaon over suspected affair with wife

Man arrested for killing elder brother with hammer; bloodshed follows wife's suicide a few days ago

A Murder has come to light where a man allegedly killed his elder brother on the suspicion that he had an affair with his wife.

The wife of the accused had committed suicide recently, after the couple fought over the nature of her relationship with his brother.

The murder on Tuesday is the latest in a disturbing series of crimes in the city involving illicit affairs and bloodshed.

The police identified the deceased as Ali Hassan Mainuddin Ansari (30) of Talegaon Dabhade.His brother Qayamuddin (28) was arrested by the Talegaon police on Tuesday on charges of murder, after a third brother, Nizamuddin, filed a complaint with the police.

The police said the accused at first tried to mislead them, saying he had gone to offer prayers when the incident happened ini the wee hours. They said his interrogation finally exposed his crime.

A few days ago, architect Santosh Bhukan was arrested for the murder of his lover Vaishali Kadam. Kadam had been his employee and had lately been demanding he divorce his wife to marry her.

Senior Inspector from Talegaon Dabhade police station Sanjay Nikam said Qayamuddin and his brother had reconciled after his wife Roshan Khatum's suicide, but later Qayamuddin accused Ali of trying to push him out of a train and their differences grew.

"Qayamuddin got married to Roshan Khatum (20) six months ago in Bihar. He then left for Pune to look after his tyre shop in Talegaon. Upon his return, he found that his wife and his elder brother Ali were having an illicit affair," said Nikam.

"After Qayamuddin asked for an explanation, Roshan was scared and committed suicide.The issue was resolved later, and the two brothers reconciled, but a month ago when Qayamuddin and Ali were on their way to Pune from Bihar, Ali had tried to push Qayamuddin out of the train."

The officer said Qayamuddin planned Ali's murder and in the wee hours of Tuesday struck Ali in the head with a hammer.

"After killing Ali, Qayamuddin went to a mosque to offer prayers and returned home with a friend and pretended he knew nothing," Nikam said. "After sustained interrogation, we have arrested Qayamuddin."
