Her mother, a teacher at Juhu's Jamnabai Narsee School, isn't an avid cook. In fact, until eight years ago, the Peerbhai's didn't even own an oven. "My father bought one for me when I expressed an interest in cooking," says Shaheen Peerbhai.

Perhaps, she then owes her affinity for cooking to her nani who "makes the best Hyderabadi Chicken and Chicken Biryani", and who inspired the 23 year-old to take up cooking as a hobby.
Chocolate Mud Cake, Cinnamon-chocolate Babka (traditional Polish braided bread), tea cakes, cupcakes, muffins, biscuits and quiches are a few of Shaheen'su00a0 bestsellers. She isn't sure how far she wants to take her career in baking, since food-related areas, including food photography interest her too. "My dream is to study at the prestigious Le Cordon Bleu," beams the marketing graduate.
The self-taught chef runs a food blog titled, purplefoodie.com ("because purple is my favourite colour!"), where she chronicles her cooking and baking experiences. Here, tips and suggestions from visitors are more than welcome.
Unlike blogger Julie Powell, who was inspired by American chef and and cookbook writer Julia Childu00a0-- the inspiration for Hollywood movie Julie and Juliau00a0-- Shaheen doesn't follow any cookbook or chef. "It began when colleagues tried my baked goodies and encouraged me to blog about it." Her love for cooking and food photography came together in the blog.
The Andheri resident delivers only up to Bandra, totally cutting off South Mumbai. However, foodies everywhere are welcome to visit her tastefully designed website. The extensive recipe section includes just about anything from Banana Nutella Crepes to Za'atar and Feta Pizza as well as Spice-Infused Grapes. It also boasts a tiny glossary to explain exotic condiments like Za'atar (Middle Eastern spice mix).
"Initially, I felt the blog would merely be a means to document my culinary experiments. But since it has steadily gained popularity, I look at it as a business model."
