In order to minimise the scarcity of aviation professionals in the country, the Ministry of Civil Aviation has given the go ahead for establishing a National Aviation University in Kerala.

The state government of Kerala has identified the location and the final details are being completed. The proposal has been submitted to the Union Human Resource Department ministry and the PMO for approval.

"Initially the university will run 24 courses, including MBA and diploma in different fields of civil aviation. We aim to give the Indian aviation industry well-groomed and skilled professionals which will certainly help the aviation industry grow," said a civil aviation ministry official.

The university would also host its own flying schools that will aim to produce the best pilots in the industry. Moreover, it would focus on special training related to ground handling, fire fighting and navigation skills.
According to Aviation Minister, Vayalar Ravi, a formal announcement be made soon. "We will come out with official information on the project in the coming weeks," said the aviation minister.

Meanwhile, the proposed university will certainly have an adverse impact on the 36 flying schools functioning in the country. These institutes are under the scanner as their credibility has taken a dent after the recent pilot scam. Sources also revealed that pioneer organisations like HAL and IIT are in consultation to help the aviation ministry in bringing up this project.

Sources also revealed that during the discussion of the project, debates supported that the university should be located between north and western India, but the aviation minister was of a view that the university must be established in Kerala.
