Jamie’s Brick Jams creates functional electric motor with LEGO and basic parts

Jamie from the YouTube channel Jamie’s Brick Jams has built a fully working electric motor using mostly ordinary LEGO bricks, a handful of basic electronic parts, and simple electromagnetic principles. No advanced motor modules. No complex control boards. Just magnets, copper wire, a transistor, and a 9-volt battery.  Through this project, Jamie shows that the core ideas behind modern machines can be understood with simple components. Odisha: Toddler sold for Rs 1 lakh by father rescued by Police

Odisha Police have rescued a two-and-a-half-year-old boy who was allegedly sold by his father to a man for Rs 1 lakh, officials said. Both the seller and the buyer have been detained. The incident, which took place at Barisahi village in Nilgiri Notified Area Council area, came to light after a video purportedly showing the father bargaining with a prospective buyer went viral on social media. A local activist subsequently lodged a complaint at Nilgiri police station. “The baby was rescued from the Chiminibhati area and handed over to the child welfare committee. Further investigation is underway,” Nilgiri Sub-divisional Police Officer Pramod Kumar Mallick said, adding police have detained two persons in this connection. Police identified the father as Rakesh Kumar Behera alias Kua, a mason, who allegedly received Rs 50,000 as the first instalment. Behera claimed financial hardship prompted the move. “We have four children and are facing difficulty in raising them. A known person arranged the buyer and I handed over the baby,” he told reporters. Police sources said Behera had married twice and the child allegedly sold was born to his second wife, who was living separately from him. Asaduddin Owaisi: ‘Govt attempting to snatch citizenship through SIR’

All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) president Asaduddin Owaisi has alleged that the BJP-led Central government was attempting to “snatch citizenship rights” through the SIR of electoral rolls. The Hyderabad MP claimed that after Bihar, the Special Intensive Revision would be undertaken in Telangana and Maharashtra. “I appeal to the people to ensure that when the SIR is conducted, all genuine names are included. The BJP wants to snatch citizenship through the SIR. It is attempting to do so by conducting the revision through the Election Commission of India [ECI],” he alleged.  Election authorities in Telangana have said that the SIR of electoral rolls in the state is likely to be announced during April-May this year. Owaisi also condemned the alleged harassment of a Muslim bun vendor by certain YouTubers during the recently held Medaram Jatara tribal festival in Telangana. He demanded that the Telangana Police register cases against those who harassed the vendor, stating that such acts of intimidation and communal targeting are unacceptable and must be dealt with firmly under the law. “He [the vendor] was selling kova bun, but you [YouTubers] see 'food jihad' in it. If you did not like the food, you should have informed the police. You are enemies of the country. I condemn this and demand that action be taken against the YouTubers,” Owaisi claimed.  This story has been sourced from a third party syndicated feed, agencies. India-UK free trade agreement likely to be implemented from April

The India-UK free trade agreement is likely to come into effect from April this year, paving the way for an increase in Indian exports to the European nation, according to a senior official on Sunday. The agreement was signed between the two countries in July last year and has to be now approved by the UK Parliament for it to come into effect. The process has already started with the debate on the Free Trade Agreement (FTA) having begun in the both Houses of the British Parliament. "Under the free trade agreement, 99 per cent of Indian exports to the UK will get the benefit of zero duty. This opens up massive export opportunities for labour-intensive sectors such as textiles, marine products, leather, footwear, sports goods and toys, gems and jewellery, and other important sectors such as engineering goods, auto parts and engines, and organic chemicals," according to an official statement. Besides, India has ensured that non-tariff barriers are suitably addressed to ensure free flow of goods and services and that they do not create unjustified restrictions to India's exports. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his British counterpart Keir Starmer announced the successful conclusion of the mutually beneficial India-UK FTA in May last year. The deal was sealed after PM Modi spoke to the UK Prime Minister on the phone. Apart from the FTA, a Double Contribution Convention has also been signed to take care of the interests of Indian workers in the UK. There will also be a significant boost to trade in services, such as Information Technology/Information Technology Enabled Services, financial services, professional services, other business services and educational services. India has also secured an exemption for Indian workers, who are temporarily in the UK and their employers from paying social security contributions in the UK for a period of three years under the Double Contribution Convention. This will make Indian service providers significantly more competitive in the UK. Under the agreement, tariffs on Scotch whisky will be reduced from 150 per cent to 75 per cent and further brought down to 40 per cent by 2035. India will also gradually cut import duties on automobiles, from up to 110 per cent to 10 per cent over five years under a quota-based system. In return, Indian manufacturers will receive market access in the UK for electric and hybrid vehicles within a quota framework. The FTA takes place in the backdrop of growing economic relations between India and the UK as exemplified in the bilateral trade of about USD 60 billion, which is projected to double by 2030. Om Birla to represent India at swearing-in ceremony of new Bangladesh govt

Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla will represent the Indian government at the swearing-in ceremony of the newly elected Bangladesh government in Dhaka on February 17, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said in a statement.   The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), under the leadership of its chairman, Tarique Rahman, registered a landslide victory in the Bangladesh parliamentary elections. In its statement, the MEA said, "The Hon'ble Speaker's participation at this important event underscores the deep and enduring friendship between the peoples of India and Bangladesh, reaffirming India's steadfast commitment to the democratic values that bind our two nations." "As neighbours united by a shared history, culture, and mutual respect, India welcomes Bangladesh's transition to an elected government under the leadership of Tarique Rahman, whose vision and values have received an overwhelming mandate of the people," it added. The members elected in Bangladesh's 13th National Parliamentary Election are set to take their oath of office on Tuesday, February 17.  The swearing-in ceremony will be administered in the morning by Chief Election Commissioner A.M.M. Nasir Uddin.  Multiple sources from the interim government's chief advisor's office, the law ministry, and the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), which is poised to form the next government, confirmed the development to the leading Bangladeshi daily Prothom Alo. The 13th parliamentary election was conducted on Thursday, and the Election Commission published the official gazette notification of the victorious candidates on Friday night.  Preparations for the oath-taking ceremony are already underway at the Jatiya Sangsad secretariat. Traditionally, the ceremony is held in the designated oath room at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban. Jatiya Sangsad secretariat secretary Kaniz Moula said that arrangements are being made for the oath-taking ceremony on Tuesday evening, February 17. Polling was held for 299 of the 300 seats in the 13th parliamentary election on February 12.  The Election Commission declared unofficial results for 297 constituencies. However, the gazette notifications for Chattogram-2 and Chattogram-4 have not yet been issued following a directive from the High Court. According to the results announced so far, the BNP won 209 out of 297 seats in the February 12 election, with its candidates leading in the two constituencies, including Chattogram-2 and 4, where results have been withheld. Their allies have claimed three seats. On the other hand, Jamaat-e-Islami has won 68 seats, while the partners in the Jamaat-led 11-party electoral alliance secured nine seats. Islami Andolan Bangladesh (IAB) claimed one seat, and independent candidates won in seven constituencies, Prothom Alo reported. With Tarique Rahman now set to lead Bangladesh - the country last saw a male PM almost 35 years ago - experts warn that the nation faces a massive challenge of overcoming the unrest and rising Islamist extremism that marked the 18-month tenure of the Muhammad Yunus-led interim government. India’s farmers betrayed in name of US trade deal: Rahul

Scaling up the attack on the government over the India-US trade pact, the Leader of Opposition (LoP) Rahul Gandhi on Sunday posed questions on the contentious deal and demanded direct answers from Prime Minister Narendra Modi on five “simple” questions. The Congress MP took to his social media handle to flag five pressing issues of the trade pact that demand not just the government’s attention but also clarification.  Reiterating that Indian farmers have been betrayed by the ruling dispensation in the name of the US trade deal, he questioned the government on the pact's detrimental effects on GM (genetically modified) crops, soya farmers and also accused the Centre of opening the safeguards that the farmers once enjoyed. “What does importing DDG really mean? Does it mean Indian cattle will be fed distillers' grain derived from GM American corn? Won’t that effectively integrate our dairy chain with the US agricultural system?” Rahul asked.  His second and third questions raised concerns about soya oil and pulses.  “If we allow imports of GM soya oil, what happens to our soya farmers in Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Rajasthan and across the country? How will they survive another price shock?” he asked. Rahul further asked, “When you say 'additional products’, what does that include? Does it signal pressure to open up pulses and other sensitive crops to US imports over time?” “What does removing 'non-trade barriers' mean? Will India be pushed to dilute its stand on GM crops, weaken procurement, or undermine MSP and bonuses in the future?” he questioned.  Demanding that farmers must be protected from the impact, Rahul said, “Once this door opens, how do we prevent it from widening every year? Will there be safeguards, or will more crops steadily be put on the table in each negotiation round?” Repeating his charge of the Modi dispensation giving in to US pressure, he added, “This is not just about today. It is about whether we are giving another country a long-term grip on India’s agricultural system.” This story has been sourced from a third party syndicated feed, agencies. Police beef up security as devotees flock to Grishneshwar Temple in Maharashtra

Thousands of devotees thronged the famous Grishneshwar Temple in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar of Maharashtra on Sunday to offer prayers on the occasion of Mahashivratri 2026. The temple, located in Ellora, is dedicated to Lord Shiva and is regarded as the 12th Jyotirlinga in the country. Devotees began arriving early in the day, with many standing in long queues for darshan. Amid heavy police deployment, the district rural police have enforced strict security measures to ensure smooth crowd management. A total of 450 personnel have been deployed in and around the temple premises. This includes 32 officers, 250 police personnel and 175 home guards, officials said, reported the PTI. They said that it is expected that nearly four lakh devotees to visit the temple for Mahashivratri celebrations till Monday morning. A senior official said the temple will remain open for devotees throughout the night to allow continuous worship. To avoid congestion near the shrine, parking arrangements have been made at least one kilometre away from the temple this year. Authorities have urged visitors to follow instructions and cooperate with security staff. Festival of faith and devotion Mahashivratri is one of the most important festivals dedicated to Lord Shiva. It is marked by prayers, fasting and night-long worship across the country. Devotees believe that offering prayers on this day brings blessings, peace and prosperity. Bhimashankar Jyotirlinga Temple in Pune to remain closed due to construction The Bhimashankar Jyotirlinga Temple in Pune district of Maharashtra will remain closed to devotees during Mahashivratri 2026, an official statement said on Monday. The decision comes amid ongoing construction work on the temple’s assembly hall (sabhamandap) and the stone steps leading to the shrine, part of the Bhimashankar Development Plan. Earlier, the district administration had announced that the temple would be closed for three months from September 9, 2026 to complete the construction, but it had also stated that the shrine would reopen for devotees during the Mahashivratri period (February 12-18, 2026). However, the latest update states that large stones have been brought into the temple premises for the construction work. Because of the heavy materials and the risk of accidents due to crowds, the temple cannot be opened even during the festival period. A press note announcing the closure has been issued by the District Planning Officer of Pune, urging the devotees to stay informed. One of most sacred festivals Mahashivratri, one of the most sacred festivals dedicated to Lord Shiva, will be observed on February 15, 2026, according to the Hindu calendar. The festival holds deep religious and spiritual significance and is marked by night-long prayers, fasting and devotion. Mahashivratri falls on the Chaturdashi tithi of Krishna Paksha in the month of Phalguna. Since the festival is centred on worshipping Lord Shiva throughout the night, Mahashivratri will be celebrated on Sunday, February 15. Devotees observe the night with special rituals, including offering milk, water and bel leaves to the Shiva lingam, chanting prayers and performing meditation. The night symbolises gratitude, spiritual awakening and the victory of light over darkness. (with PTI inputs)

SC gives monk 4 years to vacate part of Babulnath Temple in Mumbai

The Supreme Court has ordered a 75-year-old monk to vacate a portion of the historic Babulnath Temple in Mumbai within four years, while upholding an earlier eviction order passed by the Bombay High Court, reported the PTI. The court noted that it is unusual to grant such a long period for vacating premises. However, it said the monk’s advanced age and his religious way of life weighed in its decision. The case concerns a small space on the landing of the main staircase leading to the centuries-old temple located in the Gamdevi area of Mumbai. A bench of Justices Sanjay Karol and N Kotiswar Singh dismissed the appeal filed by Jagannath Giri, who challenged the High Court’s order dated November 6 last year directing his eviction, according to the PTI. The bench observed that there was no reason to interfere with the concurrent findings of the Small Causes Court, its appellate bench, and the High Court, which had exercised its powers under Article 227 of the Constitution. Despite dismissing the appeal, the top court granted Giri four years to hand over vacant possession of the premises to the temple trust. The judges said the extended period was allowed to enable him to arrange alternative accommodation, considering he is in the later stage of his life and has renounced worldly affairs, as per the PTI. The court also directed that while he remains on the premises, he must live peacefully and not obstruct any development work related to the temple. At the same time, it instructed the temple authorities not to allow any third party to occupy the space and not to disturb the monk during the four-year period. Long-running legal battle According to the court order, the premises were originally let out in 1927 to Baba Ramgiri Maharaj. After his death, his disciple Baba Brahmanandji Maharaj took over possession as a tenant, the news agency reported. Following his demise, Jagannath Giri was brought on record as his legal representative and continued to occupy the disputed portion. The occupation has reportedly continued since around 1968, with rent being paid, reported the PTI. The temple trustees filed a suit before the Small Causes Court in Mumbai seeking eviction. On October 18, 1996, the court ruled in favour of the temple trust and directed the tenant to hand over possession. An appeal filed in 2001 was dismissed by the appellate bench. The matter was later taken to the Bombay High Court, which refused to interfere, stating that its supervisory jurisdiction is limited and does not permit re-examination of evidence. With the Supreme Court now dismissing the appeal, the eviction order stands, subject to the four-year relief granted to the monk. (with PTI inputs)
