Rainwater storms civic body's new headquarters

For Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) charity should strictly begin at home.

The 28-storey building, the city's tallest and a showpiece structure, saw its ground floor submerged in water.

During an inspection trip with media and Congress councillors, MCD's Leader of Opposition Jai Kishan Sharma said, "The building is built at a cost of Rs.650 crore and it is known as an 'engineering marvel'. But just a few hours of rain and the whole basement and ground floor got flooded."

"This is a serious issue and requires a thorough probe by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). Also, the payment to the Malaysian contractor who was engaged in the construction project should be stopped," he said.

The Civic Centre was inaugurated by Home Minister P. Chidambaram April 22.

The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) received 60 calls about waterlogging and trees falling since morning.
Many troubled commuters expressed their woes on the page of Delhi Traffic Police on social networking website Facebook.
