Nashik: A 37-year-old debt-ridden farmer called Kiran Dattatreya Pawar, a resident of Borale village in the drought-hit Chandwad tehsil town of Nashik district, committed suicide by jumping into his well on Monday, police sources said here today.
According to the Vadner Bhairav police, the farmer had taken a loan from a credit society and a finance company for farming in 2006, but could not repay it after he suffered losses due to unseasonal rain and hailstorm.
The police, who rushed to the spot, fished out his body later in the day and sent it to the village primary health centre for postmortem, police sources said. He is survivied by his mother, wife, a son and a daughter. He was cremated at his village in the evening.
