Cops mum on why it took so long to file case after post-surgery complications claimed 18-yr-old Farheen Taj
On January 9, Pulakeshi Nagar police Inspector B Girish filed a case of negligence causing death against Dr Shafath Ahmed, who works in the Shrinivas Clinic in Cox Town. He is, however, yet to be arrested.
Inspector Girish, who is also a complainant in the case, said, "The girl, Farheen Taj, underwent corrective surgery for her respiratory problems at Shrinivas Clinic on February 1, 2007.

She developed severe complications soon after the surgery, which was performed by Dr Ahmed, and was rushed to the Mahaveer Jain hospital near Commercial Street for advanced treatment."
The doctor at Mahaveer Jain declared her dead on arrival.
Farheen's brother, Sagheer Ahmed, immediately complained to the Pulakeshi Nagar police station, alleging negligence by Dr Ahmed.
The police took up the case and the body was sent for a post-mortem. Viscera samples were also sent to the FSL histopathology lab for detailed examination.
After the reports came out, Dr Bhimappa Havanoor, from Mahaveer Jain hospital, confirmed that the death was due to respiratory failure as a result of obstruction of the respiratory tract.
Despite all the evidence, the police did not file an FIR in the case.
The police team at Pulakeshi Nagar is mum about the reason for not initiating action against the doctor so far. Senior officers at the station did not answer the phone despite repeated attempts to contact them.
