MiD DAY Pune celebrated its second anniversary on Wednesday. Amid a host of celebrations and cake-cutting at the office, a mass vaccination programme was also organised.
Two doctors from the Serum Institute of India gave the intra-nasal preventive H1N1 vaccine Nasovac to around 45 staff members of MiD DAY and Radio One.
As part of its corporate social responsibility initiative, the vaccination was also then given to clients of the newspaper.
Dr Hitt Sharma, deputy director (medical affairs), who gave the vaccine to staffers explained in short about Nasovac.
How many people have you vaccinated so far? Any adverse effects reported?
I have personally vaccinated upwards of 4,000 people and a million others have taken the vaccine so far.
Apart from occasional mild headaches and body aches, there have been no major side effects.
In which cases should people avoid taking the vaccine?
The vaccine should be avoided by people who have egg allergy, pregnant women and lactating mothers, as well as children below three years of age.
What preparations are essential while taking the vaccine?
The vaccine should be given only by a doctor.
This is strictly not a do-it-yourself vaccine.
The doctor should keep an emergency tray of medicines ready and also an ambulance, if possible.
