Amboli Police have arrested three men for posing as RTI activists and trying to extort lakhs from the owner of a Jogeshwari building. According to police sources, the trio was caught red-handed.
EE Heights builder Dilawar Malkani, 45, said, "We had procured the necessary approvals from the BMC to build banquet halls in the building. Recently, a stranger called up saying the halls have been made illegally and in order to avoid arrest, I should pay him Rs 50,000. I told the man to go ahead and complain to the BMC."
On January 18, Malkani got a call from a building resident who said three people, claiming to be RTI activists, had arrived on the society premises. "When I approached the trio, they demanded R1 lakh saying they had evidence to prove the halls were made illegally. They were frauds, so, IâÂu00c2u0080Âu00c2u0088alerted the cops and the trio was arrested."
