The Western Railway (WR) will soon install 35 ATMs on the Mumbai suburban railway section that would dispense currency notes of R2,000 denomination.

Tenders have been called for these 35 ATMs at stations between Churchgate and Virar. “We will provide space for these ATMs on our station premises,” said Ravindra Bhakar, chief PRO, Western Railway.

The ATMs will come up near ticket booking offices, near platforms and foot overbridges. Although there is no word on when these will be installed, sources said they are likely to come up along with the Centre’s plan. At present, there are more than 100 ATMs outside various railway stations in Mumbai.
