Even as Opposition parties in the state have taken to the streets to denounce Deputy CM Ajit Pawar for his insensitive urine comments, it appears that even his own party is divided on protecting their own. Sources have said that barring a fewexceptions, no senior leaders from the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) have come forward to provide support to juniorPawar and end the ongoing impasse at the state legislature where business has taken a severe beating for the last three days.

Down with Pawar: Shiv Sena party workers burn posters and pictures of Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar at Dadar yesterday. Opposition members have said they would continue to protest till the CM apologised for Ajit Pawar’s insensitive comments about the drought situation in Maharashtra

The Maharashtra Assembly was adjourned for the third consecutive day yesterday over Pawar’s recent remarks on the people in drought-hit areas and attempted to bring a censure motion in the house. Opposition members questioned the absence of CM Prithviraj Chavan and demanded an apology from him for his colleague. Sources told MiD DAY that the adjournments annoyed Pawar and even asked his colleagues if an adjournment was needed.

Additionally, stoic silence from the senior ministers and leader Sharad Pawar has confused the juniors in the party leading them to maintain a safe distance from Ajit Pawar. “Sharad Pawar’s silence to clear the confusion over the apology is baffling party men,” said a supporter of Ajit Pawar.

On the other hand, the Opposition — the BJP, Shiv Sena and MNS — has decided to remain firm on the Deputy CM and have said that they would refuse to let the issue die down until they received an apology from the CM, causing further confusion. Stepping up the pace on the protest, members of the opposition parties have also taken to the streets protesting against Pawar. u00a0
