Stir at Mantralaya
Thakur warned that if the compensation amount is not released in the next 15 days then they would stage a protest in front of Mantralaya.

"Our repeated requests to discuss the matter of releasing compensation to the dead waiter's family were denied by Chief Secretary J P Dange."

Dilip Vishwakarma, president of Nepali Social Organisation, has extended support to Mazdoor Union and said, "We will join the protest in Mumbai, if the compensation is not paid to the family within a fortnight."

Janak Nepali, Gokul's uncle, said, "The family is in debt, as we borrowed money from villagers; now borrowers are pressuring us to pay back."

MiD DAY contacted Runon Champagay, a Nepal Embassy official, who said: "The Maharashtra Government has sent a cheque to the Ministry of External Affairs in Delhi.

We have already sent them a letter requesting early dispatch of the compensation amount. Considering the family's plight, we will send them a reminder."
