Newlywed couple goes to hospital to be saved after suicide attempt

Man and wife realise mistake after consuming cockroach repellent

Hand in hand, a newlywed couple walked into the emergency section of the Sassoon hospital casualty ward at midnight and announced they had attempted suicide.

Doctors immediately started treating them after ascertaining what substance they had consumed and they were saved.

The man and wife, both aged around 21 years, had eloped two days ago and tied the knot. From the information the couple provided to hospital authorities, the two were identified as Sonali and Vijay Chatke, both hailing from Chandrapur district.

According to hospital authorities, they had consumed cockroach repellent liquid after an argument, but after they started feeling uneasy they realised their mistake and rushed to the hospital.

The couple, residing at Khadki, had fought as Sonali wanted to return to her hometown for a few days and win her parents over while Vijay was against the idea.

Doctors who treated the two said both of them were admitted to Ward Number 19 and that their condition was stable.
