Bangaloreans will not get a chance to watch Barbara Mori and Hrithik Roshan romance on screen. Their much hyped movie, Kites ran into rough weather after a group of people representing the Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce (KFCC) protested in front of various theatres resulting in the movie being pulled out hours after it released on Friday.

The KFCC which imposed a ban on the movie's release in Karnataka have demanded an apology from Big Pictures for not abiding by the norms laid out by the film chamber. The movie was released in 46 theatres against the rule which makes it clear that a non-Kannada movie can be released only in 21 theatres.

There is a huge police presence across theatres in Karnataka which are screening the movie.u00a0 Abhinay Theatre in Majestic, Bangalore which was screening the morning show was forced to stop screening following a massive protest. Members of the Kannada film fraternity are demanding that the movie be taken off screens since two Kannada movies, Shankar IPS and Nooru Janmaku do not have halls to release.

The KFCC norms state that non-Kannada movies can be released in only 21 theatres. The KFCC says that the distributors of Kites had approached tthem and requested that the movie be released in 24 halls which was agreed to. However they went against the norms and released it in 46 theatres which has prompted them to ban the movie. The KFCC says that Big Pictures shall abide by the norms and also tender a public apology if things have to be smooth.

The newly elected president Basanth Kumar Patil has earlier directed the film theatres not to screen the movie in more theatres than permitted. Patil have said that the distributors who voilates the terms will be slapped with fine to recover the damages caused to the kannada movies to be released on the same day. We would also make them to give us an undertaking not to repeat such mistakes in future, he said.
