Prime Minister Manmohan Singh will undergo heart surgery tomorrow at AIIMS after tests at the hospital had found cardiac blockages.
"Dr Manmohan Singh will undergo coronary artery bypass graft surgery on January 24 at AIIMS," PMO Spokesperson Deepak Sandhu said.
The surgery on the 76-year-old Prime Minister would be performed by a team of doctors drawn from AIIMS and the Asian Heart Institute, Mumbai, she said.
"The Prime Minister will be admitted to the hospital today," she said, adding that the team conducting the surgery would be supported by a team of doctors and technical staff drawn from other departments of AIIMS.
The Prime Minister was discharged from the hospital yesterday morning after he underwent angiography and other tests on Monday.
A PMO statement had said last night that doctors attending on the Prime Minister are completing their medical assessment to decide on the future course of treatment.
The multi-disciplinary medical team, which had attended on the Prime Minister, was led by his personal physician Dr K S Reddy.
Singh, who had undergone a coronary artery by-pass surgery in the UK in 1990 and later angioplasty a few years back, had complained of some chest pain after which a decision to carry out the tests was taken.
