New chief medical officer Pardeshi promises to crack down on antibiotic abuse to prevent creation of drug-resistant bugs

After Mid DAY's report on Sassoon hospital detecting 20 patients with resistance to antibiotics, PMC has tightened its belt and wants to curb the growing danger quickly.u00a0It has finally appointed a Chief Medical Officer (CMO) after two years and Dr RR Pardeshi's, the new CMO has decided to control the use of antibiotics at all the 42 hospitals and dispensaries to prevent further superbug affected patients.







We are also roping in the Indian Medical Association officials to enforce the policy against antibiotics in the civic hospitals," he said. Pardeshi added that antibiotics will be completed stopped over all the counters of PMC hospitals. "We will also make patients aware of the use of antibiotics."

Pardeshi is also in touch with the National Institute of Virology and Serum Institute to tap the possibility of developing a vaccine to fight against the superbug. "We should be ready to face any kind of eventuality. Hopefully my experience of containing Swine flu in the city will help me in this situation too," he said.

New pmc hospitals
With the present 43 hospitals in the city, Pardeshi said four more hospitals in the amenity space owned by PMC.
The locations are:
Bopodi- Diagnostic and Endoscopic Center: 60 beds
Kharadi- Trauma, Maternity and General Hospital: 100 beds
Kothrud- Maternity and General Hospital: 100 beds
Hermes Heritage, Nagar Road - Diagnostic and Nephrology: 60 beds
