US pilots union says that it wants lithium batteries, which power many mobiles and laptops, to be banned on flights.

Lithium in its elemental state is highly flammable, says Wikipedia.

Right now, you may not pack spare lithium batteries in your checked baggage.

But these batteries have a lot of positive aspects and Mitsubishi is actually working on a lithium battery car.
