Cardiac arrest claims Constable Dhondiba Yewle from Bhosari police station; 3rd cop death in two months
Au00a0normal work day proved fatal for a policeman. Police Constable Hanumant Dhondiba Yewle died while on duty because of cardiac arrest. He was posted at the Bhosari police station. Yewle is survived by his wife, two sons and a daughter. He hailed from Maval taluka.
On Monday, Yewle received a call from the police control room informing him about some unidentified youth robbing commuters near Nashik Phata. "We were heading towards that spot when he started feeling uncomfortable. We rushed him to the nearest police chowkey," said Police Constable Gaygavhane, who was with Yewle when the incident happened. "Yewle felt slightly better after spending some time at the police station."
They subsequently left for Nashik Phata. However Yewle became unconscious. He was immediately taken to the Yashwantrao Chavan Memorial (YCM) hospital for treatment. But he was declared dead on arrival by the doctors.
Yewle's death comes in the wake of increasing number of deaths of police personnel owing to stress-related diseases. Dr Milind Bhoi, trustee of Vighnaharta Nyas, which works with the Pune police said, "Cancellation of leaves and 24-hour bandobast duties takes toll on police personnel."
Not rewarded
During a patrolling duty in April this year, Yewle had detected a major crime committed by some Nepali youth trying to steal from a businessman's house. Seniors had declared a reward for Yewle's work. But he never received it.
