University to conduct Marathi course for non-Marathi speakers
Finally, the University of Pune (UoP) has got the nod to conduct a Marathi course for non-Marathi speakers.
And to take this a step further, the head of the Marathi department has invited none other than Shah Rukh Khan and Aamir Khan to learn chaste Marathi from the UoP.
Bollywood star Aamir Khan had made a 10-minute speech in a Marathi channel saying that being born in Maharashtra, he wants to learn Marathi. Currently, Aamir is getting guidance from Suhas Limaye, who is teaching him spoken Marathi. Noted actor Atul Kulkarni also helped Aamir how to speak simple Marathi.
"I was thrilled to watch and listen to Aamir's attempt to learn Marathi even before his own mother tongue Urdu," said Dr Manohar Jadhav, head of Marathi Department, UoP. "We have sent letters to all the Khans and Akshay Kumar."
Jadhav is keen to guide the Bollywood actors and non-Marathi speakers, so that they pick up the language. "I have been getting hundreds of queries from non-Marathi people in the city. Aamir is the best example for others who are keen to learn Marathi. I am thinking of calling him for the concluding function of the 60th anniversary celebrations of the Marathi department," he said.u00a0
