BJP seeking 400-plus seats to make changes in Constitution: Sharad Pawar

The Nationalist Congress Party (SP) chief Sharad Pawar on Sunday said that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) wants to win 400-plus seats in the Lok Sabha elections 2024 in order to make changes in the Constitution, reported the PTI. Addressing a campaign rally in Saswad tehsil in Maharashtra's Pune, which is part of Baramati Lok Sabha constituency, Sharad Pawar said that this year's general election is different from earlier ones since it will decide "by which method the country will work", as per the PTI. "The chief minister of Delhi (Arvind Kejriwal) is put behind bars. They (BJP) are walking on the path of dictatorship and are destroying democracy. Therefore, to save our nation we need to defeat them," he said, the news agency reported on Sunday. "This Lok Sabha poll is different from earlier ones as it will decide by which method our country will work. The nation should run as a democracy but we are worried. They (BJP) want more than 400 seats to make changes in the Constitution," Sharad Pawar claimed, according to the PTI. The NCP (SP) has fielded sitting MP and Sharad Pawar's daughter Supriya Sule from Baramati. She is up against Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar's wife Sunetra Pawar. "Wherever I go I can see man blowing turha symbol. Vote for Supriya Sule and make her victorious with a huge margin. We will strive for development and welfare of people," the opposition stalwart said. There will be protests in every taluka if his party's Satara candidate is arrested, warns Sharad Pawar Meanwhile, Sharad Pawar on Saturday said that he will ensure democratic protests in every taluka of Maharashtra if his party's candidate from Satara, Shashikant Shinde, was arrested, reported news agency PTI. Speaking at a Lok Sabha elections 2024 rally in Satara, Pawar said a case was registered against Shinde in the "APMC FSI matter" on Friday night. "Attempt is being made to bar him from contesting elections. If that happens and he is arrested, I will ensure that each and every taluka (tehsil) protests in a democratic manner," the veteran politician said, reported PTI. (with PTI inputs)

Delhi HC seeks Centre's reply on plea to restore vacations in NCDRC calendar

In the meantime, the petition requests that no further cases be listed during the month of June and the last week of December, except for urgent matters, that too with the request of advocates or parties. CPI(M) to support Congress in all but one LS seats in Telangana

The CPI (M) on Saturday said it would extend its support to the Congress in the 16 seats out of 17 Lok Sabha seats in the ongoing parliament elections and it would also hold long and careful consideration of the subject internally with regard to the Bhongir constituency. Later, CPI (M) state secretary Tammineni Veerabhadram met Chief Minister and state Congress president A Revanth Reddy and discussed the Lok Sabha elections. Also Read: Engineering student shot dead by girlfriend's father in Ghaziabad Following that CPI (M) is contesting for the Bhongir seat, Tammineni Veerabhadram said that the Chief Minister wanted the party to withdraw from the contest and support Congress. He also pointed out that an alliance could not happen between two parties, for which he said his party sought Congress' support in Bhongir in the Lok Sabha polls. Some political proposals were made but no decision has been taken on them, he said. The CPI(M) decided to remain in the fray in Bhongir and that any change of stance will have to be discussed within the party, he said. It would be conveyed after a decision is made, he said. Despite the confusion with regard to Bhongir, CPI(M) supports Congress in the remaining 16 seats, he said.  Meanwhile, Revanth Reddy said the talks were held as per the directives of the AICC president Mallikarjun Kharge and that CPI(M) broadly decided to support Congress to defeat the BJP. He expressed confidence that a few other contentious issues would be resolved soon. (With PTI Inputs)

"Mandi will teach a lesson to Congress's princes": Kangana Ranaut

Bollywood actress Kangana Ranaut, known for being vocal about her thoughts opened up on disrespect shown to women in Mandi. On Saturday, BJP candidate and Bollywood actress Kangana Ranaut said that the people of Mandi will teach a lesson to the gangs of "shehzadas" for making inappropriate comments and disrespecting the women of the state. While addressing to the public gathering in Jhakari, an area of Mandi Parliament constituency, Kangana called Vikramaditya Singh the "Prince of Rampur" and took exception to his reference to her Bollywood. Vikramaditya Singh is a successor of the erstwhile Bushahr estate, now known as Rampur. It is also known as one of the 17 assembly segments in the Mandi Lok Sabha constituency. Also Read: Harvey Weinstein hospitalized after his return to New York Referring to Kangana, Singh had earlier said, "I pray to Lord Ram to give her wisdom and hope she goes back pure from 'Dev Bhoomi' Himachal to the Bollywood because she will not win the election since she knows nothing about people of Himachal."  In Kangana Ranaut's rally, she responded to the dig by saying, "Now they are saying that I am impure because I have come here after working in the film industry and I should first go and purify myself." Following her Bollywood career, Kangana found the remark offensive. She stated that by working in films, she supported her family, educated her siblings and also helped her sister get treatment who was the victim of an acid attack. She compared Vikramaditya Singh, who comes from money, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who, she said, "was born in a poor family and saw his mother struggle while growing up." This is the reason he gave 33 per cent reservation to the women in Lok Sabha as well as Vidhan Sabha, Kangana claimed. (With PTI Inputs)

Walk for Kejriwal: AAP organises rally amidst Chief Minister's legal woes

On Sunday morning, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) held a walkathon called "Walk for Kejriwal" in the national capital to show solidarity with Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, who is now detained due to ongoing legal processes. The event attempted to rally support for Kejriwal, who is under legal scrutiny, especially after his recent incarceration by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in connection with a money laundering case related to the spirits policy, reported IANS.  According to the report, Saurabh Bharadwaj, a minister and prominent AAP politician, participated in the walkathon and emphasised the party's anti-corruption position. Bharadwaj highlighted the installation of a "BJP washing machine," which represents the party's dedication to removing corrupt leaders. He emphasised the AAP's anti-corruption theme while criticising Prime Minister Narendra Modi, claiming that recent changes in Modi's electoral rhetoric signal concern about the opposition's growing power. Echoing Bharadwaj's comments, another AAP leader and Delhi Minister, Atishi, reaffirmed the people's willingness to support Kejriwal during these trying times. Atishi emphasised that the walkathon represented the people of Delhi's constant support for Kejriwal, despite the BJP's efforts to stymie AAP's election campaign by imprisoning him, the report added. "Today the youth wing of the party has organised a walkathon. We have installed a BJP washing machine here, if you put any corrupt leader in this machine, he will come out clean," Bharadwaj asserted. He, reflecting on political dynamics amid Lok Sabha Elections 2024, said, "PM Narendra Modi is very nervous. The way he has changed his stance in his election rallies makes it clear that even he believes that the Opposition is coming to power." "Today through this walkathon, the people of Delhi have come to express their support for Kejriwal ji. BJP thought that if they put Arvind Kejriwal in jail, AAP would not be able to campaign for the elections. But the people of Delhi are campaigning for Arvind Kejriwal," Delhi minister Atishi said, The walkathon provided an opportunity for AAP supporters to demonstrate solidarity with Kejriwal and reaffirm their devotion to the party's beliefs in the wake of ongoing court challenges and the upcoming Lok Sabha elections 2024.

No ice, no toothpaste for burn injuries, say KGMU experts

Contrary to the common practice of rubbing ice or applying toothpaste, it is better to keep the affected burn area under flowing water until the pain stops. This is the best thing to do in case of burns, said experts at the ongoing medical education event WOUNDCON 2024 hosted by the Society for Wound Care and Research at King George’s Medical University (KGMU). According to the faculty member in KGMU’s plastic surgery department, Prof Brijesh Mishra, rubbing ice and applying toothpaste or oil on a burn might seem like common remedies, but they can actually do more harm than good. “Ice can freeze the skin and halt blood flow while toothpaste has hard stuff like calcium and peppermint that can worsen burns and oil traps heat, making burns harder to cool,” explained Mishra, warning that these methods raise the infection risk. Head of KGMU’s plastic surgery department, Prof Vijay Verma, advised, “The best approach is to rinse the affected under running water, cover with fresh bed linens, and seek medical help promptly in case of severe burns. Increasing hydration and protein intake is crucial for healing damaged skin, muscles, and tissues. For electrical burns, apply a sterile bandage or clean cloth; avoid blankets or towels to prevent fibres from sticking to the burned skin.” Dr K.S. Murthy, another plastic surgeon, highlighted the efficacy of fish skin products in healing burn wounds. “Fish skin products rich in omega fats and fatty collagen acids are now available in purified forms. They show promising results when applied to wounds,” he added. This story has been sourced from a third party syndicated feed, agencies.
