The rupee on Tuesday gained 5 paise against the dollar in early trade on capital inflows into the stock markets.

At the Interbank Foreign Exchange (Forex) market, the rupee appreciated by 5 paise to 46.27 a dollar. The rupee, yesterday, ended higher by 18 paise at 46.32/33.

Forex dealers said fresh capital inflows into equities by foreign funds mainly supported the Indian rupee. Besides, the rupee sentiment was also helped by the dollar's losses against other Asian currencies, they added.
