MLA Shobha Karandlaje is among politicos who are taking lessons in tweeting to woo net-savvy voters

Call it the Tweeter effect or preparation for the forthcoming polls, former minister Shobha Karandlaje, who had recently unveiled her website, is now busy taking lessons in tweeting.

Quick learner

Harsha Perla, director of Dhyeya Technologies that is training Karandlaje, said, "Besides training her on posting blogs, we are training her on tweeting, posting comments on Facebook, replying to comments. She is a quick learner and we are hopeful that she'll learn to use the Internet soon."

Karandlaje seems to be smitten by Twitter as mastering the art of tweeting, besides being online. "Yes, I'm taking lessons to equip myself to use social networking sites effectively. I'm already there on Facebook and Twitter," said Karandlaje.

Poll effect

Karandlaje is not the only one all set to make a mark in web world. Sources say that even state BJP chief KS Eshwarappa too is in queue to launch his website. BJP insiders attribute the change to upcoming BBMP polls that were announced on Saturday.

"It's a way to woo urban voters," said a BJP member requesting anonymity. "Most of our leaders, who had maintained distance from social networking sites are slowly turning towards them. Such exercises are purely for election purpose, as these sites are extensively used during polls to reach the regulars on social networking sites," he claimed.

Strong mediums

However users, besides maintaining that it's certainly a tool to reach Bangaloreans, deny their intention is city polls alone. "Twitter and Facebook are emerging as strong mediums by which we can expand our network and reach to the ever increasing net savvy community," added Karandlaje. "Though I would try to reach as many people I can during the polls but that not the only reason for me to be on Facebook or Twitter."
