Chennai: A woman government school teacher suffered a serious ear injury after a class 12 student slapped her, and official said Tuesday.

The 36-year-old computer science teacher in a government school in Maduravoil near here scolded the boy Monday for switching off the mains. After sometime, the boy went up to her and and slapped her hard.

"..She advised him to behave properly," a top school official said, requesting anonymity, adding the teacher was given a "hard slap."

"This boy has shown such despicable behaviour in the past as well. He was allowed to continue here after he tendered an apology," the official said, declining to elaborate.

"The incident has been reported to District Education authorities. Senior officials have held enquiries and appropriate disciplinary action is likely against the student," the official said.

However, no formal complaint has been lodged by the school with police, keeping in mind the boy's future. "We were told by school authorities that they don't prefer a complaint with us," a jurisdictional police official confirmed.

On Tuesday, the teacher took leave for medical check up as her left ear ached. Doctors advised her to undergo a minor surgery as her ear drum has been affected.

Officials of the education department visited the school to enquire and recommended the student be dismissed, said an official.
