Nearly 1,200 Anna supporters have fallen ill at Ramlila Maidan so far
Protesting, even with the best of intentions, has consequences. A large number of Anna Hazare followers have realised that in the past few days. More than 1200 supporters have fallen ill while staying in the ground itself. According to the volunteers working in the venue, many people are complaining about dehydration and fever.

Rain plays spoilsport
"Every third person is complaining of high fever and weakness. Some people have even fainted. The rain has also spoilt the preparations. The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) should take some necessary steps regarding this," said one of the volunteers deputed at the medical camp at Ramlila Grounds.
Water the culprit?
Rakesh Kumar, 36, one of the supporters said, "I was very thirsty and so I headed for water tanker after which I threw up. Since then I am not feeling well. I lay down at the back of the ground under the tents."
Meanwhile, Mayor Prof Rajni Abbi also visited Ramlila Grounds to oversee the arrangements being made by the corporation with regard to ground upkeep. She directed the Municipal Commissioner to beef up civic services at the ground. Deputy Commissioner, City Zone and other senior officers were also present at the venue to supervise the arrangements and ensure more effective coordination among different departments of MCD.
The other side
"It is being ensured that anti-mosquito spray is intensified, the garbage generated is lifted from time to time. 20 truck loads of garbage and soft earth have been spread to level the ground. I have directed the officers to see that arrangements with regard to fogging, lifting and transportation of waste are made as per requirement. In case it rains, the water should be immediately drained out and the ground be made dry," said Abbi. Mayor also said all-out efforts will be made to keep the ground in good condition, safe and clean. She said public health, convenience and sanitation are of utmost concern.
