In what was her first public address since arriving in India over the weekend, Sophie Grégoire Trudeau, wife of Justin Trudeau, asked women to unite to abolish gender inequality.

Sophie arrived at Sophia College For Women in Breach Candy at 10 am, dressed in an elegant pastel salwar kameez, as she was given a traditional tilak-haar welcome.

Speaking to students at the Sophia Bhabha Hall, she pointed out that the Canadian government was about to launch the Feminist International Assistance Policy to empower women in Canada, and said it was the way forward. "Gender inequality is considered the most difficult to change in society and we are now redefining this," she said.

She answered a host of questions from the students, especially on the measures that the Canadian government was taking to address immigration, education for all, and pay equity. Sophie has no other events scheduled today.
