Sports Secretary Sudhir Nath, a 1974-batch IAS officer, died here this morning of a massive heart attack.

Nath, 56, is survived by his wife Sushma, who is also an IAS officer presently serving as Expenditure Secretary in the Ministry of Finance, and a son, an Indian Foreign Service officer posted in China.

His son is on his way back to the country after getting the news, family sources said. Before taking charge at the Sports Ministry, the Madhya Pradesh cadre officer was the Director Enforcement and led the probe in the controversial oil-for-food scam, unearthed by the Volcker Committee of the United Nations.

Nath had also served in the Ministry of Defence and President Secretariat. His last rites are likely to be performed at the Lodhi Road crematorium this evening.
