MiD DAY asked three politicians how their belief in astrologers changed during the first decade of the 21st century and its future
Rajeev Shukla, Congress MP and BCCI vice-president
2000
I believe in star power
2010
I still have faith in it and I know couple of astrologers. I am a believer and my belief is my greatest strength. However, very few astrologers these days are genuine.
2020
There is no reason that I should I deviate from my belief. You realize its power only by personal experience.
Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi, former Union minister and BJP vice-president
2000
I never visited any astrologer
2010
Many of my near and dears are strong followers. I also believe astrology is a science. But, I never followed it.
2020
It will depend on what phase of life I will be going through.
Shatrughan Sinha, former Union minister and BJP MP
2000
In my show "The Shotgun Show" I had made it clear that I am a non-believer. But at the same time I have never opposed my family's faith in God.
2010
I have full faith in God. I don't deny the impact of planetary movements on universe and its creatures. Though I have no specific belief in astrology yet I believe in magic of logic. No great leader Bill Clinton, Abraham Lincoln, Jyoti Basu, LK Advani, Mahatma Gandhi ever wore stones on their fingers.
2020
I won't change. People take to these things when their life is going through a bad phase. My friend Amitabh Bachchan was a non-believer but he started wearing stone-rings.
