The Air India pilot strike has been called off after 10 days, but services of the national carrier are yet to return to normalcy at the Lohegaon airport in the city. The airport has been witnessing at least one flight cancellation every day since April 27, when around 700 striking pilots grounded the Maharaja.
The 6.40 pm Pune-Delhi flight was cancelled yesterday. "Operations are yet to come back to normal. This will take a little while," said Dhairyasheel Wandekar, Air India station manager in the city.u00a0 Wandekar added that all the passengers were duly informed about the cancellation. They were immediately accommodated in other flights.
"The full ticket amount is given to passengers who ask for a refund," he said. Air India officials refused to elaborate on the reason behind the cancellation, only citing "operational reasons" as the primary cause. Sejal Randive (24), a student who was on her way to Delhi, said her trip had to be postponed to next week since she could not afford the exorbitant tickets of private airlines.
"I had paid over Rs 6,000 for the flight. Unfortunately, I couldn't be accommodated anywhere else. My only option now is to postpone my trip to next week and book the ticket right away. The flight operations should have been made normal by now as the strike has been called off," she said. The airport operates three Air India flights, two domestic and one international.
