Sumana B Jayanth talks to designers and finds out what's hot and what's not this season

Top five must haves

Hide and seek
"Hide from the scorching sun with over-sized hats and make a fashion statement at the same time," says designer Ramesh Dembla. The light-hued hats in different sizes and shapes are available at Accessories, Lido Mall. "Aviator shades are a must this summer," says Sanchita Ajjampur. What better time to shop than now when everyone from the kirana shop down to the road to the luxury mall, is offering discounts?

"Light flowery dresses are in, especially the mid length or below the knee ones," says Dembla who thinks white is the colour of summer. " White flowing dresses always look chic," he adds. Agrees Sanchita, " For a romantic outing, these flowery dresses are the perfect choice."

Colour colour, what colour?
"It's the season of purple. Last year was ruled by pink and this year it's predominantly purple," says Sanchita.u00a0 Ramesh says he would choose white any day. "White is the colour for summer. It gives a relaxed yet elegant look."

Bragging Rights
Hobos and totes continue to top the charts. "An oversized tasseled tote is a must have in your wardrobe," she adds.

Best foot forward
"Black stilettos are a must in every woman's wardrobe," insists Sanchitha. Strappy sandals and peep-toe shoes are ideal for a casual chic look.

Fashion faux pas

Old & faded
Those sand washed denims are passe now. They have finally gone out of fashion, and in case you didn't know, low waist jeans are also out. So give your spine some relief.

Stay unruffled
Shawls and stoles with feathers stitched on them are a certain fashion fiasco. Let the birds keep their feathers.
Antique attack
Get rid of those massive earrings and heavy neckpieces. The season is apt to flaunt accessories that are small and simple. Costume jewellery is a big no this summer.

One size doesn't fit all
Wearing overtly loose clothes will make you look shabby and bulky. Fix an appointment with your tailor, right now.
