Tendulkar had started working on the work during his illness, but could not complete it.u00a0 The book includes all that he wrote until his last day. Those who've read the book say it's not simply an autobiography. "It's an insight into the times he grew up in. And it's not just a historic account. It's peppered with Tendulkar's own comments and understanding of the society he inhabited," says Vidya Apte, friend and advisor to Tendulkar.
The book spans the first 20 years of the playwright's life and speaks of the years he spentu00a0 growing up in Kolhapur and Pune. It ends around 1950, when he reaches Mumbai, says Dilip Majagaonkar from Rajhans Prakashan. "It's unfortunate that he could not complete the book.
But it talks about the pre-independence days which influenced him deeply," says Arun Kakade, who along with Arvind Deshpande, Sulbha Deshpande and Tendulkar founded the Marathi experimental theatre group, Aawishkar.
In Mumbai, noted publisher Ramdas Bhatkal, who is credited to have published all of Tendulkar's plays, will release the book that will be launched simultaneously across four other locations Pune, Nagpur, Aurangabad and Satara. The function in Mumbai will be followed by a performance of the play, Naarad Raagavla Aahe by Aawishkar.
