It still remains one of the favourite items on Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo's list. He likes a medium-rare steak with French Fries. And since you aren't out there playing the match, who's to stop you from indulging in a mid-match steak meal? Here's where to go and get your steak fix in the city.

When you're really, really hungry
At:
Indigo, Mandlik Road, Colaba
Chef Irfan sees the steak as the ultimate antidote to hunger. While they serve a mean tenderloin (only undercut) and the menu ideally offers mashed potatoes, fries can be served too. "Our best marinade is a mix of crack black pepper, thyme and roasted garlic. One variety is also stuffed with gorgonzola (an Italian blue cheese)," he says. The chef believes in the adage that a restaurant is judged by its steak. "And more often than not, we've scored in that department," he smiles.

You won't be compelled to order a red wine along with your steak, here at Indigo. "If you like a white wine, you ought to drink a white with your steak. No rules," he says. Irfan recalls the best steak he's ever eaten in a restaurant in Brussels. "It was perfection."

Respect the meat...u00a0u00a0 steak it rightu00a0
At:
Olive Bar & Kitchen, Mahalaxmi
You don't call it 'French Fries' in France. Or at Olive. It's Steak and 'Frites'. "We use a premium cut from the Angus cow, the most superior cattle, when it comes to beef. Its marbelling and intramuscular fat make it super tender and tasty," says executive chef Manu Chandra.

While the meat you dig into here is ultra-fancy, the marinade is surprisingly simple: salt, pepper and olive oil. Reason? Chef Chandra would rather let the natural flavour of the meat be. The beef is chargrilled, made crusty and served with an Au poivre Sauce, along with a whole head of roasted garlic. He loathes an overcooked steak. "An animal has just lost its life. You ought to respect the meat, appreciate it, and cook it just enough. Otherwise, you destroy everything it was raised for," he says.

At:
Mia Cucina, Gasper Enclave, Bandrau00a0
The little Italian restaurant around the corner at Bandra, offers a choice of sauces. The best is the fiery pepper, and the best steak they pull off is the Medium-Rare Pepper Steak. It's a trifle less in quantity, but quality-wise, this is as good as a steak sauce gets. Try it.

At:
Scrumptious, Versova, Andheriu00a0u00a0
Ignore the blinding sparkly interiors at this sea-facing bakery-eatery, which opens at the stroke of eight every morning. Of course, your steak comes in much later ufffd during meal-times. While their cakes and chocolates are popular, the grilled steaks are worth a try too, and you can have them packed to go home.

The quick quaint plateu00a0u00a0u00a0
At:
Cafe Churchill, Colaba Causeway
The teeny-tiny joint on Causeway is the perfect place to enjoy a cosy steak on a rainy day. Try the Pound Steak; it's their best, mixed with mushrooms and pepper. You'll have to make do without the wine, though. They don't serve alcohol, and you'll have to hurry so that the guests waiting in line on a crowded street outside have their fill too.

At:
Don Giovanni, Juhuu00a0u00a0u00a0
Don't go for the medium or rare at this high-end Italian joint. Run straight for the rare. It's how the Italians like it, and it's bloody good. It doesn't hurt that amiable Italian owner Don Giovanni is always around making his table-rounds.

At:
Steak House, Pali Hill, Bandra
They do beef, chicken, fish, and to hold on to the plant-eating section, a paneer steak too. Pick one off their two-page steak menu and you get it just the way you want it: medium, rare or well done, with the sauces you want, with the potatoes you want. Fries? Check. Mashed? Check. Baked? Check.
