Deaths caused by swine flu continue to rise in the city and 14 more students from various schools and colleges tested positive for the deadly virus till late last night.

A 29-year-old man and 40-year-old woman, both undergoing treatment at private hospitals, were reported dead. "Around 4,977 people were screened for suspected swine flu infection yesterday, out of which 14 students tested positive," said a doctor from the Swine Flu Control Room.

"Since June, 81 students have tested positive for the virus. Nineteen patients are on ventilator, 106 are still admitted in hospitals and 122 more are suspected to have been affected."

"Jitin Bhimrao Shingade (29), a resident of Yerawada and Jayashree Ganpat Kachare (40), a resident of Ghodegaon in Ahmednagar district, died yesterday after undergoing treatment at two different private hospitals," he added. Shingade showed initial symptoms of swine flu on July 17 and was shifted to the Identified Isolation Ward (IIW) on July 20. Kachare had been ill since July 5, but was admitted to the IIW of a private hospital only on July 13, said the doctor.
