For 35-year-old Suman, life has come to a standstill. Not only is she suffering from her biggest nightmare, but also living in the dilemma to see her blur future.
It's been more than two years ago for Suman' s NRI chef husband, Asharam Vaidya, to leave the Indian shore
"My husband works in a hotel in Canada and usually comes back after four to five years. Last he went for work in 2008 and after 15 days I called him to transfer some money, but he denied. I tried calling him again but wasn't in the hotel. Later, the receptionist told me that he doesn't work there anymore and they don't have any information about him," explained Suman.
Since then Asharam is untraceable but Suman alleges that his family members knows the whereabouts of her husband.u00a0
"His family members know where Asharam is and he often talks to them. They are claiming to be innocent, but that's not the case. They even asked me for the property papers, as this house in which I am living is in my husband's name. Its impossible sell off Asharam's property without his concern. That means they know where he is," alleges Suman, who is living in Palam in Delhi.
"My in-laws stay in Rishikesh with Asharam's younger brother and are asking me to vacate this house. They don't understand what I am I going through. Initially, they were helping me to pay my eldest daughter's school fee, but they have stopped all the resources. I have to take care of my handicapped children as well. I don't why my husband is doing this to me after 20 years of marriage. My destiny has failed me and I have nowhere to go," says a teary-eyed Suman.u00a0u00a0
Depressed with her state, Suman filed a complaint in National Women Commission (NCW) in December last year for some help.
"We are trying to get the contact number of Suman's husband and are awaiting for the reply of Asharam's family members. Until and unless Asharam is contacted, nothing concrete can materialise," said a NCW officer.
