When you don't want to go out

The Tasty Tangles makes you feel at home, without compromising on the quality of food

You know those days when you don't want to eat food at home but don't want to 'go out' either? The Tasty Tangles is just the kind of place for such days. The non-fussy attitude - that in no way compromises on

quality - begins with the sparse interiors, soft background music and a menu that is also an order pad, so can you just tick your order and give it to the server.

Enjoy your meal at the sparse interiors with soft background music

Pleasure of over ordering
I was really hungry and not having to dictate or repeat the order gave me the pleasure of over ordering sans the guilt. So I ticked Wasabi Prawns (that went straight to my nose even as they tingled my head), Chicken Siew Mai (I always eat these at Oriental places) and Crystal Shrimp Dumplings (highly recommended). Like our manager Rose, Tasty Tangles makes small considerations that make you return to a restaurant. Whether it is the two (instead of the usual one) sauces that came with the shrimp dumplings or the soup that came with an optional garnishing of roasted, spicy crushed peanuts.

Broccoli, more broccoli
I ordered the Wonton Noodle Soup with Vegetable Dumplings because I was promised large chunks of broccoli (Yes, I am a rare person) but it is the Curry Laksa with Chicken and Prawns that I highly recommend. Thick noodles, a boiled egg, chicken cubes in a red, coconut broth, enough starters and this soup are a meal in itself. But I did mention I was really hungry, right?

Eggs and more
I was ecstatic that Egg Fried Rice is a separate item on the menu (and not chicken fried rice without the chicken as is commonly the case) and I wanted to try the Bakmi Goreng too, with Wok Fried Prawns with Chilli Bean Sauce for gravy. The rice was predictably tasty and I expected nothing less of the noodles and chilli bean gravy. I was asked to try a new item on the menu - Roasted Chicken with Egg Rice. The chicken was well done but while I can love egg fried rice I am not a fan of just egg rice, if I want steamed rice, I will eat steamed rice. My personal bother with the rice notwithstanding, I cannot fathom why this dish has been introduced on the menu. It is too neutral in a restaurant that has taken the pain to even explain to customers about various kinds of noodles used in Oriental cooking.

Dessert time
For dessert, I ticked two options instead of one (refer to the non-guilt part earlier). The Fried Ice-Cream is an instant favourite but chocolate lovers should try the Sumatra Chocolate and Coconut Pot. In this world of souffl ufffd and mousse posers, there is an odd, lasting comfort in savouring something that goes by the name 'Pot'. The same can be said about this reasonably priced and conveniently located restaurant too.
