Profundity often lies in the plainest of things, and nothing says it better than art that appreciates the simplicity of everyday-ness. 'A Golden Opportunity 2009' is a show that captures such raw charm. A curtain raiser.

The exhibition, presented by Bank on Art, is a stunning spectacle of artworks by Seema Kohli, sculptors Anuj Kumar Poddar and Loknath Sinha, Arunanshu Chaudhury, Kazi Naseer, Sachin Karne, Nikhileshwar Barua, Poushali Das, T. M Azees, Kamar Alam, Heeral Trivedi, Mousumi Biswas, Indrapramit Roy, Saptrishi, Shubra Das among others. Their works span scale, form, size and texture of the many objects and subjects that surround us.

Cage and rage: Beauty on the way by Hindol Brahmbatt

Is jungle se mat bacho

Baroda-based artist Heeral Trivedi, in her work 'Enchanted forest', has created a mythical world that we all would love being in. "I have drawn an atmosphere with elements in mixed media, which include pencil, charcoal and many others. This apart, I have also taken inspiration from Leonardo Da Vinci and used one of his famous 'flying objects' as one of my elements. The mythical and the real world are closely intertwined, and I have tried to project that in my theme", explains the artist.

The hole truth: Bhagyanath's untitled work

Zebra crossing

For Kazi Naseer, who hails from Howrah, it is the symbolic connection between all things around us that forms the crux of his work. "The zebra symbolises life in general, while the rose symbolises beauty. My work, which is acrylic on canvas, is an amalgamation of eternal timelessness and inner beauty", delves the artist. On the other hand, Ahmedabad-based artist Hindol Brahmatt's work, titled 'Beauty on the way', features the eternal beauty Marilyn Monroe, whose life, in the words of the artist, "was not the bed of roses we imagined." The traffic and the chaos on the road symbolise that life is beautiful, inspite of all of its shortcomings.
Happy thought spotting.
