The water level in the Yamuna river has crossed the danger mark in the capital, posing a threat to low-lying areas, an official said late Friday night.

The water level has just crossed the danger level of 204.8 metres.

The level has increased to a centimetre above the danger mark, and is expected to rise further, an official said.

An alert has been sounded among colonies in the low-lying areas.

The flood and irrigation department said that Haryana on Thursday released 2.08 lakh cusecs of water, aggravating the situation after days of incessant rainfall caused the river water to rise.
