India’s External Affairs Minister (EAM) S. Jaishankar will visit Moscow on August 21 for a meeting with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, the Russian Foreign Ministry confirmed on Wednesday, reported the IANS.
In a post on social media platform X, the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs wrote, “On August 21, FM Sergei Lavrov will hold talks with FM of India Dr S Jaishankar in Moscow. The Ministers will discuss key issues on our bilateral agenda, as well as key aspects of cooperation within international frameworks.”
The meeting comes shortly after National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval’s recent visit to Moscow, where he met with President Vladimir Putin, First Deputy Prime Minister Denis Manturov, and Security Council Secretary Sergei Shoigu.
"Russia is committed to further active cooperation with India to form a more just and sustainable world order and ensure the supremacy of international law," Sergey Shoigu had said after the meeting.
Jaishankar and Lavrov last met on the sidelines of the SCO Foreign Ministers' Meeting on July 15, and also during the BRICS Summit held the previous month. Their discussions focused on bilateral ties, regional issues in West Asia, and cooperation within BRICS and the SCO.
Earlier this year, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri visited Moscow for Foreign Office Consultations with Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Andrey Rudenko. During their talks on March 7, both sides reviewed the full range of bilateral relations and shared views on regional and global matters of mutual interest.
They also took stock of progress made since the 22nd Annual India-Russia Summit in Moscow (July 2024), the Kazan meeting between PM Narendra Modi and President Putin on the sidelines of the 16th BRICS Summit, and the 25th session of the India-Russia Intergovernmental Commission on Trade, Economic, Scientific, Technological and Cultural Cooperation held in New Delhi in November 2024.
At that time, EAM Jaishankar and Deputy PM Manturov had co-chaired the inter-governmental meeting to strengthen cooperation across various sectors.
Meanwhile, Russian President Putin is expected to visit India following an invitation from Prime Minister Modi. This visit is part of the ongoing commitment to hold annual summits between the two countries, according to the IANS.
