A senior civic official from Maharashtra's Beed district was caught red-handed while allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 6 lakh to clear a bill related to road construction work, the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) said on Friday. 

Acting on a complaint, the ACB laid a trap and arrested a 35-year-old chief officer of the Majalgaon Municipal Council at his residence in Pitaji Nagari on Thursday, according to news agency PTI. 


As per the complaint against him, the 35-year-old had allegedly demanded Rs 12 lakh to sanction a Rs 2-crore bill for road works executed in the region.



The accused was allegedly caught accepting the first instalment of the bribe, the officer stated, adding that the police also searched his house but found nothing on the premises, as per PTI. 

He said a case will be registered against the accused.

Maharashtra: Tehsil office staffer caught taking bribe of Rs 1.05 lakh in Nagpur district

An employee from a tehsil office in Maharashtra's Nagpur district has been arrested on charges of soliciting and accepting a bribe of Rs 1.05 lakh to facilitate the updating of land records, an official informed on Thursday.

The 50-year-old holds the position of circle officer at the tehsil office in the Umred subdivision, stated that the official from the Anti-Corruption Bureau, as per the news agency PTI. 

According to officials, the complainant had acquired agricultural land in the village of Rajurwadi. Lacking a farmer's certificate, he sought assistance from the tehsil office to amend the land registration records.

The circle officer allegedly demanded Rs 1.05 lakh to get the work done, said the ACB official, as per PTI. 

After the complainant approached the ACB, the anti-graft agency first verified the complaint and then laid a trap on Wednesday. An ACB team caught the circle officer red-handed as he accepted the bribe amount, the official said, according to news agency PTI. 

A case is being registered against the accused at Wathoda police station under the Prevention of Corruption Act. Meanwhile, his house is being searched, the official added.
