The Karnataka government extended the term of the one-man commission led by retired Justice John Michael D’Cunha on Saturday to probe into the Chinnaswamy stampede tragedy, which took 11 lives on June 4.
The commission has been investigating the deaths of patients due to lack of oxygen at the Chamarajanagar district hospital. However, considering the urgency of the situation, the commission has been redirected to work on the Chinnaswamy stampede incident and submit a report within a month.

In their notification, the government said, “Since the Commission needs to prioritise the stampede incident and submit the report in a month after completing the probe, the term of the Commission has been extended from August 1, 2025, to August 31, 2025.” A Terms of Reference (ToR) has been released stating the seven points that the commission needs to look into.

Bengaluru Police Commissioner B Dayananda was suspended, to which former IPS officer Kiran Bedi reacted: “He did not work in isolation. There was a whole headquarters, the secretariat, and the political leadership involved. He had to be heard. How can you just pick up the commissioner? It is unfair.”
